Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report: 26 April 2017

Here is the latest fishing report for Lake Erie. Check out the Lake Erie walleye fishing report. It covers where and how walleye are being caught.

Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report

The jig bite has been steady this past couple of weeks.  There have been many limits hitting the deck.  Locust, Niagara, Toussaint Reef, and just off the shore of Turtle Creek have been good.  Purple hair jigs with or without minnows.  The fish are now more post-spawn than full-spawn.  The trolling bite has been steady.  Bandits are ruling the water right now.  The key is to find stained water, not muddy.  You want to barely see your prop.  Kelley’s, Ruggles, F can, and North Bass are all firing right now.  The action should get hot and heavy in the next couple of weeks.  Also, for you migration chasers, the big fish are already in Lorain!!!!!

Steelhead Fishing Report

Steelhead season is winding down, however there is still some action in the rivers.  Most of the fish are on beds or held in deep holes waiting for a meal.  You want to target the “dropback fish”  Most of the time they are more aggressive and only have food on their mind.

Smallmouth Lake Erie Fishing Report

ON FIRE right now.  They are up shallow dancing.  One walleye boat noted catching 2:1 walleye to smallmouth out on the reef complex this week.  Any rocky shore around the islands is going to have spawning fish on them.  Some more popular areas are in between Starve and the monument on South Bass, Kelley’s airport, and West Reef.  These are all community holes, but find a similar area off the beaten path and you will be in luck.  Good luck to everyone fishing the Fallen Hero’s Tournament this Saturday.

Perch Fishing Report

Perch are starting to heat up around Ashtabula and Huron.  Lots of quality fish are coming off of the piers and near by in boats.  Minnows on a spreader are working like normal.
