Walleye, Perch, Steelhead, and Bass Fishing is excellent on Lake Erie. Below is your up to date Lake Erie Fishing Report. The weather looks good this week. Be sure to check out our article on Weather and Waves.

Islands: West and North Side of Kelley’s Island, East Side of South Bass Island, American Eagle Shoal, and West Reef are all producing fish right now. Lots of small fish, but there are some big ones still hanging around. Limits can be had fairly quick with a #1 Dipsy Diver and Stinger Spoon combo or Reef Runners.

Central Basin: Huron to East Cleveland is loaded with fish. Some of the hot spots are Vermilion, Lorain, and Avon Point. 35-40 FOW from Huron to Vermilion has fish. 40+ from Avon to East Cleveland has fish. Some schools have a better grade of fish than others. Most are running #1 Dipsy Diver and Stinger Spoon combo at 2+ mph.

Perch are being caught anywhere from the islands to Cleveland. Cleveland has the better quality fish and they can be caught close to shore. A lot of fish have been taken from shore this past week. If fishing the islands focus on 30+ FOW with shiners and crappie rigs.

The offshore steelhead bite has started. The 41 line is a good starting point. Most fish are being caught on a #1 Dipsy Diver and Stinger Spoon combo. Troll for steelhead at 2.5+ MPH. Look for large schools suspended on your graph in the open water close to the Canadian Border. We do not have a report on Wheatley yet, as soon as one comes in there will be a separate post.

Largemouth fishing in the harbors has peaked and is still very good. Lot’s of numbers but finding the big ones can be a challenge with all the tournaments being held. East and West harbors are both good for numbers right now. The headlands has started to pick up and some nice fish were caught this week. If you are looking for bigger fish then you need to be on the Western shore of Erie in Michigan. All of the creeks/marinas in Michigan hold nice fish.

Smallmouth Fishing is very good right now. The fish are done spawning and all of our bigger fish this week came from 19+ FOW on the South Shore. Around the islands we did not find any shallow fish over 2.5 lbs. In Canadian waters the fish may be more shallow than that. Lorain and Cleveland have both been good for big smallmouth this week. In NY waters outside Buffalo has been fantastic with those fish still being shallow. Drop Shot, Jerk Baits, and Tubes all produced fish this week.

We hope you enjoyed this Lake Erie Fishing Report. We will try and get these out more often as summer moves on.
