Erie Ice Fishing Report | Jan 2019

Any information in the post is for information only. You and only you are responsible for your actions while ice fishing Lake Erie regardless of “what you heard.” Hopefully, this Erie ice fishing report will give you an idea of the fishing and conditions.

Lake Erie Ice Movement

The ice started moving a lot after this post was published today. More strong winds are predicted and it will move more. This is a dangerous situation and the weekend does not look good. We have deleted the previous information provided and kept the protected area report for your safety. This shows you how fast the conditions can change. The main lake ice is moving too much to safely fish. The protected marinas and bays may be the only option.

Ice Fishing Lake Erie Harbors

If you would like to fish the marinas and the bay there is good ice right now. Crappie, Perch, Bass, and Bluegill live in the protected areas of Lake Erie marinas. West and East Harbor are the most popular areas. Both offer public access and have boat ramps for your ice sleds. There is plenty of parking and access at both locations. Presque Isle Bay in PA is a good place to go for perch also. Lots of fishermen frequent that area to catch pre-spawn perch.

Tight lines and be careful if you venture out this weekend. Make sure a family member knows where you are just in case. Most importantly have fun. For a more recent Erie ice fishing report check out our Lake Erie Fishing Reports page.
