Cone Reef Fishing
Jigging Cone Reef
Cone reef gets a lot of attention in the spring, and for good reason. Just like the reefs around it, its a hot spot for walleye spawning. In the spring you can fish on top of it or the side, it doesn’t matter.
Most fisherman, like myself, are using a hair jig with a stinger in the spring. My favorite colors are black and purple. 1/2 and 5/8 work best for me. That way I can feel the bottom.
Bass Fishing Cone Reef
Spring and fall are the best times to fish Cone for smallmouth. However, in the summer, schools of smallies have been known to roam the area. I personally have not tried in the summer, only in the spring and fall. The fish are there!!!!!
Boating at Cone Reef Lake Erie
I have always been cautious around shallow water on Lake Erie. This is from watching too many videos of people getting stuck or rescued.
Keep an eye on the depth around Cone Reef if you are in a larger boat. You may be OK in a small fishing boat, but larger boats may have a problem. Especially on top of the reef and in large waves!
