Best Time to Fish Lake Erie
- Spring fishing on Lake Erie is unmatched. Walleye, Perch, and Smallmouth are all biting!
What’s Biting On Lake Erie?
- Walleye: Always biting! See our Lake Erie Walleye article to see what works and when!
- Perch: Peak season in the Western Basin is late summer. Fish the island and can areas.
- Steelhead: Fall and Spring is peak season in the rivers. They can be caught trolling offshore in the summer.
- Bass: Peak season is ice out until ice in. Smallmouth fishing around the islands is good all season.
Top Lake Erie Fishing Access Points
- Walleye: Catawba Island, Mazurik Boat Access, Huron, Lorain, and Cleveland all have public boat ramps. As the walleye move East, fish around Ashtabula to Erie, PA.
- Perch: Use Mazurik or Catawba boat ramps. Both are free and nice.
