Whether you have your boat or rent one locally, the waters around South Bass Island are perfect for sailing, power boating, and cruising. Water skiing and tubing are also an option around the island. The other islands protect the area making it nice. Getting your boat to the island is easy, just tow it on the Miller Ferry or drive it there. Once there you can launch it at the state park or rent a dock if you drive it there. If you reserve a dock, be sure to do it well in advance of your scheduled trip.
Kayaking and Paddleboarding
Put-in-Bay kayaking and paddleboarding offer a way to explore the island’s waters. Last summer, I rented a kayak with a group of friends and we spent the day paddling around the island, marveling at the stunning views and getting up close to wildlife like herons and other waterfowl. Keep an eye on the weather, the rental place will know if it’s safe to go or not.
